New Blog To Read

First things first... isn't this a very strange picture? What in the world were they thinking???? Is the rifleman wetting his pants? What is he worried about? I have a lot of questions about this.

For those of us who are interested in the comings and goings of family members, we have a new blog to lurk or comment on. Matt is joining the world of blog.

You will find the new link on my page, so add him in!

I know most of you are internet users, I am interested in what you are reading. I know that I have certain places that I check up on, some of them news, and some are other things. I am just interested, and I bet we would all like to know.

I am currently checking on the following:

www.jigzone.com

www.digitalart.org

www.burdastyle.com

www.howstuffworks.com/big.htm

I also like to check out youtube for funny videos.

So there you are.

Also, again, Carl.... would you please update your blog so I can know what is going on in your life????

Clare, thank you for the pictures.

Sarah, the backpack is cute and I appreciated hearing from you again.

Vicki, we need to know how things are with you.

Matt, you had better write or you will no longer be on our list.

Aren't I acting like an old lady???????????????????????????

Happy Birthday, Fleur!

Today is Fleur's happy birthday. We are so glad that she is in the family. She is just what we all need. We love her.

Election Blues

I am so sick of the election season! I find myself turning off every news channel mention of either of the candidates.

I would rather listen to repeated car ads than hear about either Obama or McCain's opinion of anything.

I don't think I am unpatriotic. I believe it is my responsibility to vote. I am even working at the poles during this upcoming election as I did during the primary elections. But, I am sick of all of the campaigning.

Happy Ancestor Appreciation Day!!

Today, September 27, is Ancestor Appreciation Day. I thought I'd take this opportunity to pay tribute to one of my very near and dear ancestors, my Papa, Roy Green.

Papa was the gentlest and sweetest man I have ever known. I spent long hours with him every day when I was a young married mother of two. Auntie and Mother worked, leaving Papa alone at the house. That gave me the opportunity to spend my day listening to his stories, cooking lunch for him, and enjoying hanging out with a true gentleman.

When I was a brownie scout, Papa took me to a couple of Daddy Daughter Dinners when my own dad was not available. I would spend hours decorating a shoebox in preparation for the "boxed dinner" which would be lovingly packed for the two of us. He picked me up, fussed over the tacky, crepe-paper decorations, and repeatedly assured me that the half-burned fried chicken was the best he ever ate.

Later, when I had married, Papa took me to Charley Pool Ball, a real pool hall, to buy Harvey a pool cue. I was really impressed watching my Papa stroll confidently up to the pool cue display, pick out just the right stick, sight it, and roll it on the pool table to check it. He took several tries before declaring the perfect one for a gift for Harvey. I was so shocked. It never occurred to me that Papa knew anything about playing pool.

One of our favorite things to do was to take a drive. We almost always ended up at the cemetery driving past some of our favorite monument stones. There was "Mr. Toombs", "Exum", and the famous Gypsy king and queen. Papa called the cemetery the "silent city".

He was a die-hard democrat and avid debator of politics. He read the paper every day and loved to discuss the finer points of the day's opinions. He loved his family.

Papa told me my first "dirty joke"...

He was really a great guy.

Wierd Advertising From My Childhood

Most of you can't remember when cigarettes were advertised on television. I remember many of the old cigarette ads. Advertisers spent big bucks to produce ads that would entice the public to smoke. But, who knew that Santa was such a devil-may-care man about town.

I think we should have a contest to see who can come up with the best caption for the picture. The winner gets our undying respect.

Big News From Harry and Rhonda

Since they don't blog... I bet they won't care if I share their big news! They are moving!!

They bought a 1920's farm house in Hyrum, Utah. It is located on an acre with a stream and pond stocked with trout and bluegill. Harry said that it was larger and more accommodating for guests. In 1995 the owners updated it by adding master bedroom over a two car garage and a family room. It is all on one level except for the master bedroom. I, for one, am very anxious to visit and try out the fishing!

They are planning the move in the middle of October. I am sure their boys, Arthur and Chester, will just LOVE roaming their new land and swimming in the pond. I can't wait to see them, also.

I will include pictures sent by my little brother to me last night.

Congratulations to Harry and Rhonda and Chester and Arthur!
